Cellz FAQ

- What software do you use to virtualize VM systems?
We use workstation class commercial off-the-self virtualization software for VM systems. - How is a Cellz VM server different from a VPS (Virtul Private Server) or VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server)?
A Cellz VM system virtualizes the whole system, with virtual hard disks, virtual RAM, a virtual video card and virtual BIOS, etc. This is very different from most other commercial VPS or VDS offerings (ie. Virtuzzo or H-Sphere) which separates virtual servers in the same (shared) host kernel by managing them in separate contexts. To achieve this, they use a heavily patched host kernel that is shared between all virtual servers on the same host, with limitations to many functions (such as the inability to create device nodes, restricted filesytem mounting, etc.). Due to the shared kernel architectuer, there is a real possibility that one fault in a single virtual server will take out the host system, with all other virtual servers with it.
What the Cellz VM platform offers is real virtualization of the whole system with none of these limitations. To the user, there is no practical difference between a Cellz VM server and a physical system. Cellz VM virtual servers are fully independant of each other, and a fault in one system does not affect the other systems on the same host in any way.
- How many Cellz Virtual Servers do you put in a physical host system?
This depends on the maximum contention ratio quoted in the Cellz Plan Matrix. However, the maximum quoted is just that, the maximum. In practice, your system may share with several users fewer than the quoted contention ratio. - Are there any setup fees or hidden charges for your Cellz plans?
No. There are no setup fees or hidden charges in any Cellz packages. - How do you bill?
