digisBMS Management Features

Find out more about digisBMS, our new account panel that lets you take direct control of your server.
Even the most reliable server requires good administration tools. If you have tried upgrading a kernel remotely, you would know have fustrating it is not to have access to the computer without the network interface active. We know, and the product of our exprience with administrating remote systems is the server administration features of digisBMS.

digisBMS is a mainly web-based control system for your server and account. It has direct control over the virtual hardware layer of your system. Therefore, when the user issues a power cycle command through the web interface, the system is power cycled at the virtual hardware level. The system would reboot, even if the kernel panics/hangs. In addition to the basic features such as power cycling, it also has many value added tools that is not available anywhere else. Here is a quick feature summary of digisBMS -

Remote Power ( Start / Restart / Stop )

With digisBMS, the user can instantly hard reboot or stop your server from any web browser connected to the internet. Although it may take up to 5 minutes for the system to reboot and regain network connectivity, the user does not have to wait in the dark as all our OS images are configured to use the serial console as the main console. You will be able to use the bootloader and see kernel and boot messages during your boot while logged in with QuickConsole.

Real-Time Traffic / Bandwitdh Query

Our traffic reporting system contains up to date information for each IP address assigned to your server. The user can query for a specific range in time for traffic statistics. The resulting output consists of both a graph of the traffic pattern and a traffic summary. The same database is used for calculating bandwidth quota for all of our clients.

QuickInstall : Instant OS Installation

QuickInstall is our exclusive server operating system installation / re-installation system.  It gives the user a choice of operating systems to install. Currently, we offer over 10 different operating systems to choose from, in a variety of different flavors. Installation take at most 5 minutes, although the system may take a little longer to start up networking and work itself up to the state where the user can login. QuickInstall works by keeping a central repository of OS images. When a installation request arrives, the system will fetch the OS image from the repositry and decompresses the OS image for the server overwriting any existing OS. When the server is started after the installation has been complete, the new OS will boot.

QuickRefresh : Instant OS Refresh

QuickRefresh is a variation of QuickInstall that allows the user to instantly re-install the current OS on the server instantly. As the current OS image is kept in a local cache folder, the image does not need to be refetched from the central image server, resulting in a faster re-install. This feature is especially useful for custom OS installations where the custom OS is not available in the QuickInstall menu. It is also very useful for Windows system, as most Windows systems are custom configured and you will not be able to install Windows from the QuickInstall menu. (A solution to automatically configure Windows is under development. When finished, the user will be able to reinstall any operating system they have rights to, including Windows)

QuickConfig : Instant software configuration and installation

QuickConfig is Diginode's exclusive web-based system configuration system that allows users to install or remove software and configuration elements from their servers. At the moment the user is able to change the root / Administrator passwords for their server, as well as installing standard software modules (such as Webmin) on their servers. QuickConfig utilizes SSH technology to login to the server and carry out the required commands and can be disabled if desired by the user.

QuickConsole : Out of Band Serial Console

When the network interface of the server is not active, normally there is no other way for the user to access the server. Diginode recognized this problem and introduced QuickConsole, a serial console system included with all our servers that can be accessed securely over the Internet with SSH. By using QuickConsole and QuickRestart, the user is able to completely view and interact with the boot proceedure. As all of the bootloaders in the OS images provided by Diginode is serial console enable, using QuickConsole also allows the user total control over kernel selection on other bootloader related features. Aside from the boot process, QuickConsole is also indispensible when reconfiguring a network interface or for any administrative activity in which the network interface is unavailable.

DNS Management Features

The built-in DNS management features of digisBMS allows the user to create and manage DNS zones pointed at the Diginode xDNS nameservers (xdns1.diginode.net and xdns2.diginode.net). The user is able to add, modify or delete zones and zone records in real-time through the web-interface. By utilizing a real-time relational database backend for DNS data, all changes to the domain information is reflected immediately.
